Disabled Veteran Homestead Tax Exemption

Georgia grants qualifying disabled veterans a homestead exemption on their primary residence, applied against state, county, municipal, and school property taxes. The exemption amount is set by a federal index rate and rises each year.

Eligibility: Honorably discharged Georgia veteran who is VA-rated 100% totally disabled, rated less than 100% but paid at the 100% rate for unemployability, or entitled to statutory awards for loss/loss of use of hands, feet, or sight; must own and occupy the home as a primary residence. Extends to un-remarried surviving spouse or minor children.

Estimated value: Up to $121,812 of assessed value exempt (2025 index rate; adjusted annually)

How to apply: File an Application for Homestead Exemption with your county tax commissioner or tax assessor's office; the exemption renews automatically once granted.
